If you were shopping for flights in the 1960’s, you were guaranteed to come across sexist airline advertising like this ’68 ad from Finnair. Not to say that it isn’t effective – the dizzying map makes it impossible to focus on anything but its canvas, a beautiful woman waiting for you at your destination. To Finnair’s credit, they did move away from the even more insulting (and creepy) ads run by peers like American and Eastern Airlines.
FUN FACT: While Aero, the airline’s original name, began using “Finnair” in its marketing in 1953, it did not become the brand’s new name until 1968. (Source: Finnair)
