Retro Ad of the Week: Tupperware, 1962

At a time where practically every Thanksgiving ad showed a family around the table or someone dressed in a pilgrim costume, this “Talk Turkey” ad by Tupperware would have really stood out in a magazine. And you can’t beat the line: “No need to give your family the bird day after day after day.”

FUN FACT: Tupperware owes much of its success to Brownie Wise, who perfected the art of marketing via home party. Tupperware parties became a model for direct selling in cosmetic companies and other industries throughout the world. Brownie Wise was heavily promoted (the first woman to grace the cover of Business Week) until she was unceremoniously fired by her jealous boss, Earl Tupper in 1958. (Source: PBS)
