Our Favorite Super Bowl Spots: Pepsi, 2002

Lauren’s Pick: “For Those Who Think Young”

The Super Bowl is a place where you are certain to see the showdown between two major players: Coke and Pepsi. Coke’s tactics are heart warming and family friendly, whether it’s Mean Joe Green showing his soft side or whimsical polar bears rolling around in the snow. On the other hand, Pepsi brings in the help of young, sexy, and/or iconic stars like Cindy Crawford, Michael Jackson and, in one of my all-time favorite Super Bowl ads, Britney Spears.

Adapting the retro “For Those who Think Young” jingle to various decades made a fun and sexy homage to each generation while still appealing to the young men and teenage girls who adore(d) her. Having been one of those teenage girls at the time, I enjoyed picking up a few dance moves from this spot like it was a beloved music video.

This year, Pepsi is using one Super Bowl spot to feature Melanie Amaro, as part of the grand prize she receives from winning the X-Factor, of which Pepsi is the title sponsor. She joins the ranks of Britney Spears and other famous Pepsi Divas, Mariah Carey and Beyonce Knowles.
