The Mini Yacht – a new trend for the wealthy?

A new concept from the Italian design firm Lazzarini will be hitting the seas in 2014. The Jet Capsule is a luxury mini-yacht with a futuristic design. At about 25 feet in length, it is “small enough to be easily maneuvered, yet spacious enough to take a handful of friends out for drinks, over to a port for an evening’s entertainment.” Because of its size, it requires less diesel, making it more energy efficient and cheaper to operate and dock.

This futuristic looking yacht pod starts at $205,000 but can be ordered fully customized from the interior layout, color, and lighting and design options. “VIP configuration” can cost up to $345,000.

So who is the target audience of these sea-faring space ships?  The folks at Lazzarini envision the vehicle as a water taxi, ambulance, or police vehicle as well as a party boat or cruiser. From their epically cheesy promo video, it is a perfect fit for wealthy seafaring, sci-fi nerds.

This product may work as an add-on toy to a mega-yacht, like a jet ski or submarine, or it may end up as successful as Lazzarini’s Comb Shampoo bottle.
