A Look at Design Trends for the Coming Year

Among all the different stock photo sites out there these days I have become a big fan and user of Shutterstock. Well, this week on their blog they posted the third annual Design Trends Infographic. Using their 350 million total image downloads (mine included) they analyze trends in photo styles, search terms being sought, local vs global similarities/differences, video footage subjects and more. They then turn all this data into an interesting and well-designed infographic for us all to enjoy and hopefully learn from. Personally the portion I found most intriguing was the list of search terms on the rise like “Appetizing,” “Gatsby,” and the acronym “BYOD” (Bring Your Own Device).

Take a look below and visit the blog post to see a special lightbox they created of all the images used in the graphic. But be warned – I’m sure lots of people will be downloading these popular photos to use in their own campaigns. Something to be ever cautious of with stock is putting out a campaign using a photo that one of your competitors have used. And overall, wouldn’t you rather lead a brand that stays ahead of the curve instead of following what everyone else is doing?
