The Most Creative Travel and Tourism Marketing Campaigns of 2013

With an ever-expanding sea of travel and tourism marketing campaigns, it’s getting harder and harder to grab the attention of prospective tourists. But there are a few brands who did a great job in 2013. Here are 5 of the most creative campaigns from the past year.

Romania. Admittedly more of a PR than a marketing campaign, this very different approach from Romania uses humor to ask Brits “Why Don’t You Come Over?” The campaign was a response to a politically motivated campaign by Britain to keep Romanian migrants out. The Romanian answer is this brilliant approach targeted at the British population; it touts Romania’s more attractive women, cheaper beer, and better food, among other things.

SNCF Railways. This high-speed European railway service got the attention of pedestrians by placing doors, each with the name of another city in Europe, in the middle of popular tourist attractions. When the doors were opened, they revealed a full-bleed screen with real-time, interactive events in the city named on the door.

Las Vegas. The next step for the “It All Happens Here” campaign? Honor the Enablers who get you to do crazy things in Vegas. We all know one. Or maybe you are one.

WestJet. Couldn’t have a list of the best campaigns without including this gem. Chances are, you’ve seen it (with a big smile on your face).

Norway. Speaking of smiling faces, sometimes they can get old. Norway gets in a few, but mostly focuses on the screams – of fear, awe, joy, and victory – that come from its visitors.

Any campaigns you’d like to add to the list? Any you would take off?
