Retro Ad of the Week: Greyhound Bus Coach Line, 1940

In this particular ad by Greyhound Bus Coach Lines, they do a great job of portraying the bus as a start to your vacation, rather than a way of traveling. In other words, you know your vacation has begun when the bus pulls up to take you to paradise.

The small bus in the background stands in stark contrast to other bus ads of the era, which often placed the bus front and center. It also serves as a subtle reminder that this happy couple’s beach vacation was served up by a Greyhound Bus. Simple travel advertising at its best.

FUN FACT: Greyhound owned Dial Soap and Armour Hot Dogs up until the mid-80s. They also owned their own restaurant chains so that no one would need to leave the station. (Source: Thrillist)
