Back in 1945, a Raytheon engineer named Percy Spencer was experimenting with a device known as a magnetron, which was used in military radar systems. During his experiment, he noticed that the candy bar in his pocket was melting.
This discovery led to the development of a product that is in every home in America today: the microwave oven.
The first commercial microwave Raytheon developed, the “Radarange”, was taller than me and cost around $2,500. (Source: Raytheon.com)
