Retro Ad of the Week: Bahamas, 1977

As winter winds down, it’s hard not to wish you were on a beach in the Bahamas right now. The imagery and language used in this ad does a wonderful job of tapping right into that mindset. The focus of the ad – a smiling, radiant couple surrounded by blue water and sky – perfectly reflects the desired emotion and atmosphere of the target audience. Exactly what all ads for destinations should accomplish.

Here’s the full text:

There are places where you can feel more alive than anywhere else in the world. Where you can spend days alone together on your own pure white sand beach. And spend your nights eating in gourmet restaurants and dancing to the Goombay beat. Where you can water-ski, fish for the really big ones or just play around in a beautiful, crystal-clear turquoise sea. Where you can go shopping for exotic crafts in straw markets. And where the people are as warm as the sunshine.

FUN FACT:

The Bahamas is home to the clearest waters in the world, with visibility reaching down to 200 feet. (Source: Globalblue.com)
