In 1957, Rolex paid tribute to someone who has become one of the most controversial explorers ever printed in our history books. While the ad makes an effort to draw some kind of a connection between watches and exploration (Rolex was used as a helpful tool for explorers long before it became a luxury icon), it is a poorly executed connection. Instead of offering intrigue and inspiration, I am left scratching my head and not compelled to read what follows. We’ll give them an A for effort and wish everyone out there an intriguing and inspirational Columbus Day!
FUN FACT: The expedition team that first reached the summit of Mt. Everest in 1953 was equipped with Rolex’s Oyster Perpetual watches. (Source: Rolex.com)
