When you think about traveling by bus, images of the ocean and clear (or fresh-smelling) skies don’t typically come to mind. Greyhound played on peoples’ desire to travel and experience the beautiful outdoors in this 1960’s advertising poster. Creator Rod Ruth captured the highlights of each season in a series of charming and colorful posters, along with many more ads for Greyhound through the years.
The 1960’s ushered in a much more visual and artistic style of advertising. Take a look at Greyhound ads from just the decade before and nearly every one features an actual bus (go ahead and Google it, we can wait). Incorporating art in advertising allowed Greyhound to focus on the services they offered to passengers – bringing them to the places where memories are made.
We hope you get the chance to make many fun memories this season. Happy First Week of Summer!
FUN FACT: In 1913 Carl Eric Wickman, founder of Greyhound, created the bus business eight years prior to the invention of actual buses.
