Retro Ad of the Week: Quebec Tourism (1961)

This ad for Quebec took an interesting approach that you seldom see in the travel and tourism category today – they focused on the carnival-like atmosphere of their ski areas instead of the intimate experiences you can have. And in this case, it works. Quebec embraced who they were and focused on what set them apart from other winter destinations. To do so, they used fun, friendly copy and colorful illustration that was much less rigid than what other brands used during that era.

 

FUN FACT: Quebec is home to Chateau Frontenac, rumored among multiple travel blogs to be the most photographed hotel in the world (though I couldn’t find the mention on the Guinness Book of Records site). Here’s a picture of the popular tourist attraction:
