Retro Ad of the Week: Jaguar, 1957

The in-focus shot of the luxurious European automobile gliding effortlessly through a sea of its nondescript American counterparts – nicely done. The stuffed jaguar hanging out the passenger-side window? A bit to literal for my taste, but likely done to help differentiate Jaguar from other, similarly styled European luxury automotive brands making a push into the U.S. market at that time.

FUN FACT:  Jaguar was founded as the Swallow Sidecar Company by Sir William Lyons in 1922, originally making motorcycle sidecars before developing passenger cars. The name was changed to Jaguar after WWII to avoid the unfavourable connotations of the “SS” initials. (Source: Wikipedia)
