1928 Hawaii Tourism Ad

Retro Ad of the Week: Hawaii Tourism (1928)

Remember when Hawaii was “The World’s New Island Playground”? Of course you don’t – you weren’t born yet. Your parents probably weren’t either. Interesting that they chose to use surfing – as opposed to the unmatched beauty – to sell vacations, even as they recommend it as an extension of a trip to surf-centric California. So what do you think? In 1928, was Hawaii’s marketing team doing the experience justice?

FUN FACT: While the Hawaiian islands were annexed by the U.S. in 1900, Hawaii did not become the 50th state until August 21, 1959. (Source: History.com)
