Retro Ad of The Week: Bahama Out Islands, 1968

Targeted directly at harried New Yorkers, I think this ad is almost perfect for its time. For any time, really. I look at it, and I want to be the girl in the ad. Not just because she looks better in a bikini than I do, but because she hasn’t a care in the world. There is only water and sand and endless horizon. I don’t just want to be in her destination; I want to be in her state of mind. That is what a travel campaign, in any form, should do. Does yours?

FUN FACT: Havana was a far more popular destination for Americans than the Bahamas until the early 60’s, when the U.S. enacted the Cuban embargo still in effect today, and the Bahamas experienced a huge uptick in tourism. (Source: TourismToday.com)
