Retro Ad of the Week: 5th Avenue Candy Bars, 1965

The thing I love about this ad is that it is a work of pop art. The fundamentals of pop art are based on the world of advertising; it’s in your face, tells you up front what it means, and is pure Americana. That’s why the use of pop art  by 5th Avenue is a stroke of genius for the time it was created. It goes to show they were in on the “joke” of pop art and willing to go along for the ride.

FUN FACT: 5th Avenue was originally manufactured by Luden (of cough drop fame) and was in production for 50 years before the brand was acquired by Hershey (Source: Wikipedia)
