Halfway across the world in Auckland, New Zealand, a dog’s life doesn’t seem so bad. Mini Cooper and The Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA) have teamed up to teach three adoptable dogs to drive. Since October, potential adopters, dog lovers and the like have been able to follow the progress of Porter, Monty and Ginny on Facebook and YouTube.
Mini and SPCA are not just creating awareness for their brands and satiating the world’s need for adorable animal videos but also teaching people that dogs are smart creatures that can adapt to a new family and home. According to Christine Kalin, SPCA Auckland CEO,
Driving a car actively demonstrates to potential rescue dog adopters that you can teach an old dog new tricks. The dogs have achieved amazing things in eight short weeks of training, which really shows with the right environment just how much potential all dogs from the SPCA have as family pets.
So if Porter (old dog) can be taught to drive a car (new tricks), he can also be trained to sit, stay and pee outside. For Mini Cooper, who is a long time supporter of the SPCA. this is a big win on the Good Will front. And it fits perfectly with their branding campaign, which already features their vehicle used in non-traditional ways.
If you were up at at 1:00 AM EST on Monday, you may have seen these Driving Dogs put to the test on New Zealand’s Chanel 3 News’s online show Campbell Live. And if you’re looking for a new furry friend this holiday, check out adoptable pets here in the States.
Smart brands, take note.
