Still relatively new to the American market, Porsche was attempting to capitalize on their success in the racing world with this ad in 1956.  By juxtaposing their famed racer with that year’s Carrera model, they were able to illustrate for the wealthy American consumer the combination of luxury style and performance that only a Porsche could provide.

FUN FACT:  Hoffman Motor Cars of New York introduced the first-ever Porsche 356 to America in 1950. Dealership owner Max Hoffman explained: “If I cannot sell 5 per week, then I’m not interested in the business.” By 1954, his business accounted for 30% percent of Porsche’s global sales.  (Source:  Porsche.com)
