Special Retro Ad of the Week: Aer Lingus, 1963

From “elegant dining” to “serene comfort,” you are going to love your visit to Ireland. And if you believed Aer Lingus back in 1963, you wouldn’t even have to leave the plane to experience it. On international flights, you often get a feel for the culture of the country you’re about to visit, and Aer Lingus was wise to capitalize on that experience instead of leading with low fares and quick rides like so many of its competitors. Their promotion of Ireland as a stopover destination served as a nice added touch to help drive tourism dollars into the Irish economy.

Happy St. Patrick’s Day – may the wind be always at your back.

FUN FACT: The shamrock became a popular symbol in ancient Ireland representing the return of spring. It began adorning the tails of Aer Lingus aircraft in 1965, replacing the Irish flag. (Source: Wikipedia)
