Hotel Advertising / Retro Ad of The Week: The Plaza, 1966

Personification of an object, or in this case, a building, is often a highly effective way to get your audience’s attention. This is a fine example of hotel advertising that may seem like something you’ve seen before – we’ve all seen ads where people are “in love” with their hamburgers, furniture, etc. – but this ad is almost 50 years old, and written simply and elegantly to suit its subject.

FUN FACT: In 1959, Hitchcock’s North by Northwest became the first film ever to shoot on location at The Plaza. Many more were to follow, including The Way We Were, Funny Girl, Cotton Club, and The Great Gatsby. (Source: The Plaza website)
