While the lakes theme took various forms over the past several decades, Michigan’s message remained the same: come here for the water… that’s all we’ve got. This Michigan state tourism ad from 1952 echoed that sentiment, as did its fellow “Water Wonderland” ads from 1947, 1948, 1949… you get the picture. Thanks to the launch of the state’s “Pure Michigan” campaign in 2006, consumers have seen more of what Michigan has to offer, with the occasional glimpse of what has made the Great Lakes State so great – stunning sunrises over expansive shorelines, hiking paths bordered by spectacular lake views, and canoeing adventures along glassy streams. FUN FACT: The world’s only floating post office is located in Michigan, and its boat, the J.W. Westcott II, delivers mail to ships while they’re still in transit. (Source: The J.W. Westcott Co.)
