Easter Retro Ad of the Week: Budweiser, 1950

Nothing says Easter like dyeing eggs and… a cold beer? Not sure if most people think of beer when they visualize the Easter bunny, but this retro Budweiser ad sure wants you to. Especially with that happy couple. Who wouldn’t agree that swigging beer and hand-painting eggs goes hand-in-hand? The flourishing copy takes it home with a heavy-handed payoff.

Let’s take a closer look:

“There’s nothing like it … absolutely nothing. Big events … and little incidents, too … give home-life its color and contentment.  Of course, Budweiser may be only an incident in your daily life, but from it flows a great measure of satisfaction. Its distinctive taste … its exquisite bouquet … its snowy foam and golden brilliance … these are the products of America’s costliest brewing ingredients and finest brewing skill. Live life … every golden minute of it. Enjoy Budweiser … every golden drop of it. ”

Anyone else want a cold beer after that? Whether your Easter typically involves Budweiser or not, this is something we could get on board with!

FUN FACT: The secret ingredient to Bud’s classic taste? Rice. Conrad Budweiser is said to have added rice to produce a distinct, crisp flavor (although the rice was markedly cheaper than hops at the time). Must have gone over well, though—to this day, Budweiser is the largest buyer of rice on the American market. Source: Mental Floss
