Hotels Team Up With Google Glass to Make Booking Hotels Completely Effortless

Countless travel sites such as Kayak, Travelocity and Booking.com have seemingly made vacation planning, and hotel booking as simple as can be. But Google Glass has made it even simpler.

The funky, intelligent headwear has not exactly become mainstream yet, but it is making strides with its new app, Hotel Near Me. Developed by online travel agency Destinia and multi-platform app creator Glob3mobile, Hotel Near Me will allow Google Glass users to access the nearest hotel to their current location. Imagine how helpful that would be when cluelessly wandering the streets of a big city.

But that’s not even the best part.

The app will list all of the hotels within close proximity and sort them by price. Users can then tap the Glass to access virtually everything they need to know about the selected hotel, including photos and hotel services. Once you’ve picked a hotel, you can book it right then and there via Destinia. This video shows the simplicity of booking hotels on Google Glass.

Hotel chains are eager to jump on board with this innovative booking idea. Starwood Hotels and Resorts recently launched their Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) App for Google Glass, which allows all the same features as Hotel Near Me except for the booking feature.

This is the second step that Starwood has recently taken toward the modern age of vacation planning. In the beginning of this year, While they are not the first to pioneer the concept, Starwood announced that they are making efforts to completely eliminate hotel room keys and replace them with Smartphones, a feature the brand is testing out at its Aloft hotels in Harlem and Cupertino.

Will these be the the apps Google Glass from a hyper-futuristic toy of the wealthy to something that we see on every street corner?

It’s hard to say, but from what we can see, they sure are fighting their way to complete relevance one app at a time.

Hotels can obviously benefit from this deal. The more easily accessible their information, the more chances they have for booking. Teaming up with Google Glass – whether by becoming part of a pre-existing app or creating their own – can only boost the reputation of a hotel, portraying it as modern and technologically savvy.

Has your brand dipped its toe in the Google Glass pool yet? And more importantly, have your competitors?
