Best Brands for April Fools’ Do Not Include Comcast

April Fools’ Day isn’t just for office pranks anymore. Especially these days when social media reigns, more brands than ever are getting in on the fun. Here are a few of my favorites from this year.

First, the dork in me adored Trip Advisor’s addition of Azkaban, Mordor, Gotham, and others to their 10 Unforgettable Destinations for Families page. Each one had a hilarious review. The one for Amity Island read, “We were amazed we had the whole beach to ourselves,” while Panem’s reviewer talked of locals who were “dressed to kill.”

Next, I was actually quite disappointed that Clippy’s return to Microsoft documents was a prank. I was looking forward to his help with some pivot tables.

Malibu had a slightly crueler prank – they attempted to get people to lick their phones. I wonder how many actually did it.

Finally, Xfinity (Comcast’s witness protection alias) recently teamed up with one of my favorite comedians, Jim Gaffigan, to tell consumers that Comcast really has changed their ways. Meanwhile, on April 1, our office had a productivity-killing interweb crash. Good one, Comcast. Only, now it’s April 3rd and our connection problems are still not resolved. Ah, Comcast, why, do you even try?
