Retro Ad of the Week: Cedar Point, 1978

What adventure-seeking fanatic wouldn’t want to ride the world’s tallest roller coaster? When Ohioans unfolded their newspapers on June 16, 1978, they learned they would soon have the chance to ride the steepest, fastest, and most thrilling attraction in Cedar Point’s history: Gemini. The two-minute-and-20-second ride (still) stands at 125 feet, and moves riders at 60 mph.

Today, technology has advanced and the Gemini record has been broken countless times. Cedar Point now has the second tallest roller coaster in the world called the Top Thrill Dragster, standing at 420 feet in the air, not far behind Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure in New Jersey which is 456 feet high.

Fun Fact: According to Orlando Sentinel , Skyplex in Orlando is currently building the next record breaking ride called Skyscraper, which will be 501 feet tall! It is planed to open later this year. Outdone again, eh SeaWorld?
