Alcohol Advertising / Retro Ad of the Week: Guinness, 1935

Strategy for alcohol advertising has changed immensely over the years, and Guinness is no exception. However in Guinness’s case, the nutritional benefits claimed in their over 40-year-long campaign might not be so far-fetched. With a higher iron content than other beers, Guinness could be the healthiest thing you consume over your upcoming St. Patrick’s Day celebrations. So drink to your health with Guinness!

FUN FACT: In 1983, Ireland attempted to use a harp symbol as their international state trademark until legal counsel advised it could infringe upon Guinness’s famous right-facing harp. The following year, Ireland did register an official trademark—a left-facing harp.
