Some of the best luxury ads are the ones where the brand puts a stake in the ground and says “this is who we are – take it or leave it.” It’s called brand positioning. Not a lot of car companies have managed to do it well throughout the years. But in 1972, Jaguar certainly did.
FUN FACT: Originally called the Sidecar Swallow Company, each model had an SS in front of it (i.e. the SS Jaguar). After WWII, they dropped the SS designation because of the unfavorable connotation and left it as simply Jaguar. (Source: Wikipedia)
