advertising for luxury communities

Retro Ad of the Week: Williams Island, 1991

Today, advertising for luxury communities is fairly high minded. It’s not about who has the shiniest new toy. Or home. Or wife. But back in 1991, it certainly was. At least on Williams Island. In fact, it seems they were able to reference all three in one ad.

The headline seems to insinuate this is a new trophy wife to accompany you on your brand new yacht. Might as well take it to a place you can show it off – a private luxury community right on the water. In 2018, the luxury sell is more about experience and less about ostentation. Especially when it comes to destination marketing. Keep the trophy wives out of your ads, and you’re likely to appeal to your key decision-maker (hint: she doesn’t have an Adam’s apple).

FUN FACT: In the 1980’s Williams Island was home to famous Italian film actress, Sophia Loren. (Source: Architectural Digest)
