emotion in hotel ads

Retro Ad of the Week: Sheraton-Waikiki Hotel, 1971

This ad for the Sheraton-Waikiki was introduced before the hotel opened on world-famous Waikiki Beach in 1971. Back in the 70s, it wasn’t often that you’d see emotion in hotel ads. But the woman excitedly running into the ocean perfectly portrays the feelings of freedom and pleasure we so often experience on sunnier shores. As we settle into six more weeks over here at Mascola Group (if you believe groundhogs), this “vacation paradise” in Honolulu doesn’t sound too bad (especially at $22/night).

FUN FACT: In the Season 4 opener of The Brady Bunch, the Brady family stays at the Sheraton-Waikiki while accompanying Mike on a Hawaiian business trip. [Source: IMDb.com]
