Air Travel Ads / Retro Ad of the Week: American Airlines, 1949

The air travel ads of both today and tomorrow have targeted women, with one major difference. Whereas in the past marketers used a condescending approach, making it seem as though women should feel embarrassed about eating alone in public or hassled by having to leave a tip, the ads today come from an angle of empowerment. It certainly is nice to get treated like a queen, but only when it’s not accompanied by messages that treat you like a confused child.
